Sponsored by the INDATA Project at Easter Seals Crossroads

WHEN:   Friday, February 19, 2010

9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE:  Easter Seals Crossroads

  Indianapolis, IN 46205

WHY:  This FREE assistive technology training program is for anyone interested in learning more about the diagnosis of cerebral palsy, the different assistive technology devices available, resources for funding and equipment evaluations.

Assistive technology devices can help accommodate medical issues associated with cerebral palsy, such as difficulty with body movement, learning disabilities, and sight or speech impairments.  These devices are for children and adults with cerebral palsy who want to increase their independence and to make their home, school or work-site more effective, comfortable and enjoyable.

Parents, adult consumers, professionals, educators, and health care providers can benefit from training content.

WHO:  Featured speakers include Chuck Dietzen, M.D., Medical Director of Easter Seals Crossroads, along with a representative from United Cerebral Palsy of Indianapolis.  Wendy Gahimer, Speech Language-Pathologist at Easter Seals Crossroads, will conduct a hands-on lab where attendees can learn about different access methods for augmentative communication users.

In addition, Tobii ATI and Dynavox Mayer-Johnson will be setting up their assistive technology devices for viewing.

CEUs will be offered for this training. For more information, visit http://www.aacinstitute.org/

INDATA (Indiana Assistive Technology Act) Project

Easter Seals Crossroads operates the INDiana Assistive Technology Act Project, otherwise known as the INDATA Project. The purpose of the INDATA project is two-fold. The first is to get assistive technology into the hands of Hoosiers with disabilities through device demonstrations, device loans, computer recycling and alternative financing. The second goal is to provide statewide outreach educational opportunities regarding assistive technology capabilities, options and resources. We accomplish these efforts through quarterly trainings offered statewide through telerehab, an annual assistive technology conference and small group presentations.” For more information call 1-888-466-1314 or visit www.eastersealstech.com.
